Default Torque kit on g9

I've just put a Jakes torque kit on my g9. Had to replace the inner sheave because of wear, and replaced the wear shoes also. I heard from a Yamaha mechanic that because of the higher spring tension on the secondary spring seat, it may cause it to wear on the shaft. My thoughts are if the clutch is kept greased, I shouldn't have this problem. I've read nothing but good things about the upgrade on this site. Any reason not to do it?

Hmmm. That's a new one on me! I've not heard that before. I would think the little amount of use our cart's get, it would take a long time for that to happen.

I've never heard of the shaft wearing. I would replace the C-clip on the shaft with the solid spacer though.

Don't see a c-clip anywhere. Maybe it worn or broke off, but the g9 parts breakdown doesn't show one either. Where is it located on the shaft?

It's shown here as number 27. It is the first thing to go on the shaft, it stops the sheave from hitting the transmission case.

Thanks everyone for the help. I was looking at the secondary sheave schematic! Didn't really notice the c clip on my cart. The Jakes kit says to leave it off. I'll doublecheck before I go any further.

Yep, leave it off and replace it with the spacer.
