Cool G1 79-80 w/no motor.

I have a local selling a 79 or 80 G1 with no motor. It has the belts, pulleys but I'm not sure what is out there motor wise that I can use if we would like to convert it. He wants 200.00 for it. Can someone offer any new motor models, even if not Yamaha that I might consider before we buy it? Newbee...from Macon.

Since a G1 is a 2-cycle the forward/reverse is controlled by the motor --- no "transmission". Any replacement motor decision would have to take that into consideration... you would either 1) have to replace the engine with another 2-stroke; 2) replace with a 4-cycle and go without reverse; or 3) replace the entire drive train with a later model set-up.

Sounds like it is a pretty good PARTS rig -- but a bit pricey. By the time you finish the cart with any of the above options you will probably have enough $ and/or time into it to have bought a complete cart, probably a running one, and fixed it up.

Good luck.
