Maybe buying a gas G3 Sun Classic tomorrow... advice/thoughts?
Hi!
I've found a Yamaha G3 Sun Classic gas cart at a dealer near me, and am going to take a look at it tomorrow morning. The dealer says that the cart is in basically perfect condition- the prior owner hardly ever, ever used it. (It's from a super-ritzy area where the uber-rich have toys and don't use them and take good care of them). Even has the original tires in good condition (but of course I'd probably replace them, because...I imagine the tires from the late 80s might be on the safe side to replace). Questions: -how easy are these to maintain? It's a 2-stroke, so I imagine I'll have to pre-mix oil & fuel? (I have a 2-stroke scooter that takes care of the mixing itself, so asking to be sure) -Anything in particular I should know about these carts? Does anyone have any experience with them and can give advice (on them in general, or what I should be looking for when I go check it out tomorrow) Thanks! |

No need to mix oil/gas, Yamaha 2 cycles use an oil tank and oil pump. I say if you like it and it's in your budget...buy it. They were ahead of there time back then, just alittle low of head room for my likeing. Be forwarned..alot of parts may not be available (body and some electrical parts), but since the drive train is basicly a G1-a, you can always keep it running. Good luck

Cool, thanks! I have a Yamaha 2-stroke scooter, so good to know that it's similar.
Yeah, I'm not at all worried about the body/cosmetic stuff, since I'm taking it to Burning Man and morphing it into something else entirely anyway, ha.... but good to know that make-it-go parts are still available! |

I alway's thought if got ahold a good solid running G3, I'd cut the top and make a "speedster" out of it, but in a way the top could be reattatched like my Mercedez 450sl.

I'll keep you guys updated! I'm going to do it with adding a frame to it and then stretching fabric over it, a la this (but not a duck): http://costumenetwork.com/albums/141...rubberduck.jpg
