98 electric ezgo sluggish up hills
I have a 1998 electric Ezgo PDS which loses power up hills. The batteries are only a year old and the cables are new. The batteries are losing voltage when the cart is going up hills. I put a new solenoid on, but that did not fix the problem. I would appreciate advice on my next step. Thank you.

Re: 98 electric ezgo sluggish up hills
Is the cart stock? With stock tires? Typically a cart will lose power going up hills. The question is how bad is it and what is your voltage drop?
Also replacing the solenoid wouldn't fix an issue like that. The Solenoid is only there as part of the activation circuit. Things that would help would be upgrading the wires (2ga or 4ga) upgrading the controller or upgrading the battery pack voltage. |

You state you are losing voltage uphill. What is the voltage while going uphill? |

Re: 98 electric ezgo sluggish up hills
Thanks for all your posts. I did not write down the voltage going uphill, but in a separate test, the load was fine. I hope that make sense.
I thought it was a PDS because there is the run/tow switch under the seat. I am going to test the controller today. Can anyone tell me what one to buy if I have to? Thanks, Mary. |

Also, what is the battery pack? Is that just my batteries. Sorry for my ignorance.

The 1998 DCS can make lots of hill climbing torque with Pkg #505 from our website and 20 mph on the flats too

Re: 98 electric ezgo sluggish up hills
OK, I tested my controller by putting the meter's negative probe on the terminal and the positive on the B+. When I hit the accelerator, I get no voltage reading. In addition, after running for 20 minutes, all three wires to the controller are very hot. I figure I need a new controller. Can anyone confirm this and let me know exactly what I have to buy? Thanks!
