AGM vs lead acid battery
I did a quick forum search and didn't find any reviews.
Is there a reason not to use them? Drop in performance or use time? Thanks! |

Re: AGM vs lead acid battery
I think the cost has been the deciding factor against them.

Re: AGM vs lead acid battery
The sparky drag race guys use them because of their light weight, smaller footprint, high-amp discharge capability, and fast recharge. They also get sponsors to pay for them.

Re: AGM vs lead acid battery
My Dad has a bunch of AGMs' that he scored from a guy.We looked them up, about $325 each!!He put 3 in a Caroche he bought. It ran a suprisingly long time on a charge.I don't know exact use time, but he said that he could run it around for days at the house with out charging. The ones he has are the size of a Group-31 Heavy-Truck battery.I put one in my kids power-wheels,charge it for 3-4 hrs, they ride it for about the same amount of time(And boy does it move and do wheelies!).

Re: AGM vs lead acid battery
My thoughts on AGMs....
Not only are we a Club Car dealer here in Augusta but we are a Stealth dealer as well. The only experience I have with AGM batteries is through Stealth. Stealth claims that if you discharge a pack of AGM batteries below 50% 3 or 4 times it will severely impact the discharge time of the pack. They claim they have longer range than a set of lead acid batteries, but what good is that if you can't use it to below 50%? Sounds kind of like a new car salesman saying that their new vehicle will go 600 miles on a tank of gas, but dont put more than 200 on it before filling it back up or it'll damage the engine... Lead acid batteries get my vote. Also... the On-board computer on a Club Car would probably freak out if you hooked it up to a set of AGM batteries. You'd want to bypass the OBC and use a standalone charger with a timer in it calibrated for the AGMs.... No thanks. |
