Problem solved, bad coil. I found it open on the secondary side. Interestingly enough, I found the same on my neighbors running cart, but after swapping the coils it instantly had a big bright spark. Threw the plug back in and vroom vroom. I started off by putting my igniter in my neighbors G2 cart and it ran fine so new that wasnt the problem. I then checked the wires and connections and found a couple little things but no show stoppers. Checked the pickup and it was pulsing the igniter. So as a fluke I swapped coils and that was it. I didnt run it long, just on a little spray. Now I have to flush the tank, make sure the fuel pump works and see how that chines carb works. Need to get an exhaust and an air filter too. Time for the fun stuff now.

Drove the cart for the first time yesterday. No exhaust yet so im sure the neighbors weren't pleased, but had to try it out. cart runs really well, but I don't think its charging. It sputtered out after a little bit and would only restart for maybe 15 seconds. im charging the battery now and will check to see if it charges. If not I have more wiring work to do. How does the cart know its running and stop sending the start signal to the S/G? Or does it just always send power if the pedal is pressed?

Always sends power, as speed increases load decreases and power starts to travel opposite direction to charge battery (if the charge portion is working).

Thanks CG, wasn't sure. Got a muffler mounted today and was able to enjoy the cart a little. Hauled its first load to the dumpster at the end of the road. It charges great at about 14.5v , I just had a loose wire. I still need to do some cleaning up of the wiring, but its back among the living. Runs and drives great.

At higher rpm the VR runs current through the small wires in the side of the gen to excite the windings and make it charge more or less as needed. If you are seeing ~14v its working but they tend to not charge much at low rpm such as idle or just off idle so the voltage may be closer to 12 then.
