Default 8 volt Battery question

My 8 volt batteries are completely dead, only about 2.5 v each in my 87 Marathon. They are new but it set for about 4 months. My regular charger won't \kick on. I have a normal 12 v car charger. How would I charge the batteries up to enough volts for the normal charger to kick in?

You can usually perk them up one at a time with a 12 volt auto charger. If the the charger has a hi/lo setting use the low setting and keep a watchful eye on them as you charge them up one at a time as they can/will get warm. It generally only takes a few minutes each to bring them up to around 6 + volts to which your cart charger should then be able to take over....

Disconnect the batteries from "each other" first. In other words, don't leave the pack connected together.

To the best of my knowledge there is no reason to disconnect the batteries from each other. I've perked my neighbors cart before with no ill affect.

You do not need to disconnect them to charge one at a time with an auto charger. Just don't leave it on unattended. It doesn't take long to get the voltage up high enough for the regular charger to work. You will overheat the charger if you leave a 12V charger on an 8V battery too long.
