Default 2011 G29 clicking won't run until several pumps of the pedal - voltage regulator??

I have a 2011 Yamaha g29 "drive" (gas) that clicks when the gas pedal is pressed, but will not start. After several pumps of the pedal and a few clicks later it will eventually take off. However, this has gotten worse and worse and it is to the point I have to do something about it. My troubleshooting has consisted of listening and feeling around for the clicking sound while pressing the gas pedal. I narrowed it down to the voltage regulator, and after disconnecting it, the cart ran MUCH better immediately. However, after reading several posts on here, it seems that the voltage regulator's main purpose has to do with charging the battery correctly, so this might not be my problem after all. Any advice would be much appreciated before I spend $100 on a voltage regulator. Thanks!

What is the battery voltage dropping to when pedal is pressed? Are you sure the belt is not slipping but the starter/generator is actually turning.

does the motor start if you tap on the starter/gen with a small hammer
if so I suspect worn brushes in the starter/gen

I'm getting 12v from the battery and at the starter. I have been messing with this thing all day and can't pin it to one thing. Any other ideas???

I had a 2010 that had similar problems. You press the pedal and nothing. Not even the generator would turn. Sometimes you could stomp the pedal hard and fast and the generator would turn and then fire over the engine. It was intermittent for several weeks until I got fed up and started troubleshooting with the help of the gang here on the forums. Ended up being the start/stop switch that's underneath the floor panel for the gas pedal.

Press gas pedal to the floor, slide foot off the side of pedal, allowing it to pop up to rest position rapidly. If it starts right up after that , its the pedal switch. This is not a fix, but a "quick & dirty" diagnostic trick.

Thanks for the idea! I will definitely give this a look tonight! I have spent most of my time in the starter and battery areas, and haven't even looked at anything near the pedal. This actually sounds like it could be the problem!

Just seeing this now, but thought I would comment for the next guy..... Had a similar issue, and it was indeed the switch. Rather than replacing the switch, I was able to repair it.

Remove switch, and there are 4 Philips screws that hold it together. The switch is basically a rocker style switch that is operated by a spring and ball bearing. Be careful when opening it for this very reason. It's not under much pressure, but could be a bugger to find the ball bearing if it shoots out.

Once apart I simply cleaned the contact plate with electrical contact cleaner, and slightly stretched the spring to create a better/firmer contact. Put it back together, and Voila!!! She works perfectly, and has not failed me yet.

Here in Canada, the replacement switches I was looking at are priced between $60-$80. So was pretty happy that I saved those costs!

Cheers, Cheesy!
