Re: secondary sheave
Mike, that spacer is already there on the shaft..hmmm that tells me that someone has already had the clutches off at some point in time.. I think who ever had it apart forgot to use the never seize..lol
I started reading some of the articles last night, but was called out by the wifey to watch some TV with her (it's tough sharing golf cart time with the wife..lol) it was very interesting you mentioned above packing the gear box with grease..it's these kinds of things I want to read and learn about..haven't found the post yet on that topic. |

Re: secondary sheave
Mike, I read where the guys are bypassing the cable to the governor and going directly to the carb.. I have all the cables off the rear end now to clean and paint..do I even need to put the clamp and bracket back on the governor? When my kids raced quarter midgets with the Honda motors, we use to just disconnect or twist the governor shaft on them..if I remember correctly that was about 17 yrs ago.. I had the one motor apart and just took the shaft out completely.

Re: secondary sheave
Ah!! you got the fever!! Nice!! Why do you think I'm on here at 3 F,n o-clock!! I'm an idiot!!
Mr. Block (Smallblock 450sl)!! On greasing the steering gear, Take off the top plate, pack grease ( Stuff it full!! All you can get in it!!) Then re set the set screw by jacking up the front if the car so the wheels are off the ground. Turn the steering wheel lock to lock, and set the set screw just so there is no binding felt in the steering wheel!! Then tighteen the lock nut, and should be good to go!! Thats what I did, (long cable direct to carb) but you don't get full throttle that way!! There are other ways to do it, but I think its the best way for me!! I always go out alone so one cable is the most relieable for me!! (Less parts is always a good thing to me!!) I shortened the throttle pedal to get about 7/8 throttle, but other people take off the throttle pedal below the floor and tip it toward the rear of the car one notch on the spline. I'm tall, so its not comfortable for my foot, so I cut off the top of the pedal!! Others drill out the hole on the bracket arm, but for me, thats too much can go wrong. |

Yep, those parts have been replaced. You have the new style helix--the ramps have a fastener--not push in. |

Re: secondary sheave
John, is there a ridge down close to the center, where the belt would ride, on the aluminum one?
Im trying to help you decide if the sheave is close to being worn out!! If there is a ridge on the sheave down where the frame of my square is, it may be better to replace the sheave!! |

Re: secondary sheave
Also, slide the "sliding sheave" onto the input shaft. Feel for any "play" from the bushing in the sliding sheave.....now would be the time to chang it if it's worn.

Re: secondary sheave
Mike, laying a flat edge on the sliding sheave it's pretty straight..there is a very tiny slight lip at the very bottom..only maybe a few thousands difference.
smallblock, the bushing on the sliding sheave has a little play in it.. if I was at work I could mic the shaft and use gage pins to give you the difference, but if I was to make a guess there might be .002/.003 clearance between the shaft and bushing. |

Re: secondary sheave
John,I'd put new shoes in the helix, and new seals on each side of the bushing!!
And I'd lube the entire secondary with never seize!! |
