Default 48v motor in 36v cart?

Can you put a 48v motor in a 36v cart?

Yes but you won't like the performance. The other way works much better( 36V motor in 48V cart)

Its a buddy of mine wanting my old 13.5 d&d motor. He has a stock 2 person cart. Will he be ok with this? He has a upgraded 450 amp controller

If the motors are compatible you can certainly try it. You did not say if your cart is series or sepex but they have to both be the same. I don't know much about older Yamaha carts so I don't know if the splines are the same but they probably are.

His is likely a 19 spline also IF his motor points sideways like yours. They both likely have the same style Dana axle. His motor would point the other direction sideways (toward driver side, instead of toward passenger side like yours). That's no worry tho, the direction problem is very easy to fix.
