Default Re: FE 350 Still backfiring

I have a 2008 FE 350 that was backfiring, and this thread put me on the right trail to fixing it. But as it was left a bit ambiguous, I will contribute my experience in hope it helps someone else.

For me the key was to make sure the throttle cable where it attaches to the carb goes completely slack when you take your foot off the gas. Some of my go-faster tweaks had left a small bit of tension in this cable that was fighting the butterfly valve spring, so that it would not reliably close. To adjust this slack/tension see the sticky post; for my cart the under-floormat area has a throttle cable length adjustment fitting.

To test any adjustment, as it has been said, drive your cart at full speed on a slight downgrade, take your foot off the gas and coast for a ways, then push the gas back on (at which point you are likely to induce a backfire if maladjusted).
