Noob here with engine trouble 89 cc
I was recently given an 89 cc it drove when i got it but the clutch on the engine was making a horrible noise so i brought it to my shop and took the clutch apart and cleaned it and put it back together, then took carb off and cleaned it up. took top off of motor cleaned up carbon and then reassembled, now it wont start. the motor pops and back fires, but wont run. Any ideas? also what kind of compression should i be looking at? oh and it will back fire out of the carb sometimes too, If it was a car motor i would be looking to retime it. but i am lost with carts.

Re: Noob here with engine trouble 89 cc
I have now gone through and figured out the flywheel keeps sheering the key way off of the crank and thus going out of time. has anyone had any type of issue with this?

Never heard of a repete shear problem.
Check for burrs on the taper of the crank and in the flywheel, Using the correct key or making them? Proper torque on the flywheel nut? Try a light coat of thread lock on the taper area before assy with proper key and torque. |

Re: Noob here with engine trouble 89 cc
Well after closer inspection i have found the notch in both the flywheel and the crank are not the correct shape anymore, so i will probably try some tricks before i decide if a rebuild or new engine is the best option. oh and where would you recommend getting a rebuild kit from?
