Cart won't go after getting stuck
Hello...long time reader, first time poster...I have a 93 EZGO 36V. Its been running great. Got it stuck between some fence posts on Christmas(don't ask...long story). Had my wife try to floor it while I pushed...back wheels didn't spin. Anyways, got it out from between the fence posts...and then it wouldn't work anymore. Tested batteries...they seem fine...what should I test next? Other info...I can feel it "try" to move...if that makes sense...it will surge occasionally, but just very quickly. I jacked up the rear end to see if I could get the wheels to spin, and they did...set it down...they didn't spin. jacked it up again, and they wouldn't spin...

Re: Cart won't go after getting stuck
When sitting on the ground and the pedal is pushed, does it sound like the motor is running?
Sounds like another case of a stripped brake drum? |

Thanks Mikesmotortoys...see you are all over the place in these forums...honor to chat with you. Before I order new brake drums, is there a way to check for sure to see if that is the problem?

Re: Cart won't go after getting stuck
You will only have one that is bad. Sit the cart back down on the ground and have someone step on the gas pedal. JUST IN CASE something grabs, make sure that there is plenty of room for it to move forward if this happens!!!
Now, while the pedal is depressed and the motor is running, look at your rear tires - you should see a 'wobble' in the one where the drum splines are stripped. Don't go full speed or over board on this, as I don't want you to damage your axle. When you find out which one is bad, pull it off and before you replace, make sure the axle splines are all clean. We sometimes have to take a hacksaw blade to "recut" worn splines on the ends... PS - Welcome to the Forum! |

Re: Cart won't go after getting stuck
Thanks, I'll start there...will the bad break drum look "bad" at all...is there a way to tell by looking at after I remove it to see if it is bad?
Thanks for the welcome...I was hoping to avoid posting...as that usually means your cart isn't working...oh well...great resource! |

Re: Cart won't go after getting stuck
The bad drum will not have any groves left where it slips over the axle. This is usually what the problem is with your described results

Re: Cart won't go after getting stuck
If the spline is stripped and slipping, with the hub cap off if you have them, you will see the axle nut turn when you try to go.

Re: Cart won't go after getting stuck
It isusually caused by shifting from F to R without stopping

Re: Cart won't go after getting stuck
So here's the latest...I purchased a new drum...pulled the wheel off. Instead of hub caps, my cart has got this annoying black little cap...looks to be aluminum or something....that is in front of the hub. Looks like it needs to come off before the hub will come off...has anyone seen this, or had any luck pulling it off? Its so small...has a tiny little rim that I am barely able to get a screwdriver behind...anyway...I am pretty sure it needs to come off...any advice?
Thanks in advance, |
