84 transaxle
OK so i finally removed the rear end on my 1984 club car. The issue that I was having was that when under load the cart would produce a swooshing noise through the exhaust. when i removed the drive belt - noise gone.
i have inspected the outer bearings and the axles themselves - eveything is clean with no issues. when i turn the clutch every moves nicely with no friction/play. the question is do i open this thing up to look /inspect for any issues, and if I do is this going to be nasty to put back together? What would cause this friction inside of the transaxle? If i open up are parts going to fly everywher or do the gears stay in place for the most part? Any suggestions/guidance would be very appreciated. thanks |

Re: 84 transaxle
What makes you think the noise is in the transaxle and not the driven clutch?

Re: 84 transaxle
Of course..you drained the axle and looked for metal..with a magnet, right ?
Driven clutch would be the first easy start for sure..but axles have to have a lot of metal in the lube to be noisy..at least usually...you know showing gear damage, or bearing damage. |

I don't know why you pull the rear end out of the car without pulling the axles/bearings for inspection first! ????

Re: 84 transaxle
what should i look for as far as issues with the driven clutch?
i have inspected fluid for metal and yes with a magnet - no sign of metal, fairly clean fluid. the visible bearings with the axles off look good and move freely. i have not cracked open the transaxle yet - should i? thanks again guys |

Re: 84 transaxle
I dunno, that could be a can of worms ... do you have a manual? Or transaxle experience?

Re: 84 transaxle
The club car gasser is one of the few that actually takes 80-90 type gear oil... I would invest in some high quality stuff, like a Lucas to see if you can't quiet it a bit? Not sure on the quantity? Prolly not much more than a quart and a half? Fill until it comes back out of the fill hole .... with the transaxle in the cart
