Battery goof up..?
When checking the fluid levels in each cell, I decided (wrongly) to add distilled water to bring up the fluid level to up inside each of the tubes in all cells. I used about 3 qts total only to discover I should have left well alone...#%@$#. By this time I had run the cartie for about 2 - 1 hr. periods. (no spillage, mind you)
After my first wave of panic subsided I "borrowed" the missus' turkey baster and reduced each cell level to just below the bottom of the each plastic tube. I now have in clean mason jars about 2 qts of I guess acid and distilled water mix. Should I be concerned about the removal of some unknown amount of the acid, and what to do about it.............??? |

Don't sweat it. Save the removed acid in a SAFE MANNER and use it to top off the cells next month.

It wont even hurt to dump it as it breaks down to nothing,OR you could use it to make some great looking jeans that is the fad now.

How do you dispose of unused sulphuric acid? Answer First, do not dilute the acid by adding water to it, as this may cause an exothermic reaction that could lead to boiling acid, explosions, and severe burns. The best option is to call a battery disposal company, which will probably neutralize the acid and take care of it. Second to that you could hand it to a chemistry teacher (high school, college, etc.) They should have an avenue to dispose of it. The worst thing you could do is to pour it down the drain, where it will upset the pH of the water supply and pollute the water with disolved chemicals. |
