need 1980 EZ-GO TEXTRON 2 stroke help
Hey guys,
I have a 1980 2 stroke ez-go that has 90 psi compression in reverse and 60 forward. MY brother in law replaced the crank seal at the back of the engine but I am not sure about the front. One question is, which seal would deal mostly with the forward compression? |

I was thinking that too. What would it usually cost for a shop to bore one out? I don't have the tools to so such a thing. I might only be able to get a hone brush drill extension, unless autozone loans out the measurment tools. I assume you really needs the gauges right?

Just check with the site sponsors for a kit. You can get them with the cylinder pretty cheap and their easy to install. Good luck, Chardonite..........

Re: need 1980 EZ-GO TEXTRON 2 stroke help
Most kits come with a new cylinder that is already honed. I had the same problem you have eel_dahc. Running the engine if forward wears the rings and cylinder differently than running the engine in reverse. Because you run it more in reverse (for the most part, at least), forward compression is usually lower. Mine would struggle up a hill in forward but hammer up it in reverse lol it was very bizarre.
The only tools I remember using on my rebuild were some snap ring pliers, a socket set, a putty knife, various screwdrivers, and a torque wrench. I have a rebuild manual for the top end in PDF format if you are interested. I believe it includes torque specs as well. I also have some detailed pictures step by step of my rebuild if you are interested. I was able to rebuild it in my basement in less than 2 weeks and I am no engine mechanic! Let me know if you are interested in the manual! |
