Default Charger & battery help needed

Hello: I've read MANY threads on this common topic, but haven't found the specific answer I'm looking for. I have an '06 EZGO with '06 Trojan batteries. When I plug the PowerWise charger into the cart it hums and the needle moves just off of zero up to maybe 2 volts, but that's it. I tried charging two of the batteries with a good battery charger that I have which has a 6V position. Still, the PowerWise charger didn't kick in when I plugged it in after that. It seems the batteries didn't take the charge. I don't have a battery voltage tester, but I'll pick one up tomorrow. I'd just like to know if you suspect the batteries or the charger on this one.
Thank you in advance.

A voltage meter is a must. Note the pack voltage and then with the charger on check it again. Is it charging? If so what is the reading? I suspect the charger is not working properly.
But we need to know what the battery pack is reading first.

I'll purchase the voltmeter tomorrow. I just thought that the way the charger responds to being plugged into the car indicates something other than the batteries are not charging. For example, if it were plugged into the car and it didn't hum and the needle didn't move at all then maybe the problem was obviously with the charger. The fact that my charger clicks on and hums and registers a 2 volt charge may also be indicative of something. I don't know, that's why I'm asking.
I appreciate your response.

My charger won't kick on when the batteries are already fully charged.

It could be a bad meter or bad transformer?

Most of the time if the charger turns on and the meter only goes to 2 amps (which is what I think you mean, not 2 volts) it is a bad diode. Simple fix.

Is this the diode you were speaking of?
