Had this exact same issue with my 1985 - thought it was the belt, brought it back in pieces and got a new one - now I'm thinking its the spring in the secondary.

having trouble finding a spring for something that old though (1985)

hello everyone. I am new to the cart scene, I have a 84 EZGO Marathon with a robin 244 cc motor, what shorter belt should I use? anyone have a manufacturer and part #? any help is appreciated....thanks

That shorter belt on the 87 probably came in contact with the rivets that mount he steel sheaves to the hub and shredded it when it fully shifted out. The other carts are newer with an all aluminum clutch. Others on the forum have had the same problem.

I also have a 87 and I use the 3004 belt and have for a couple years. I don't have any issues with it. It works like it's suppose to.
