Re: motor won't engage
First off can you give us the year of the cart or the model number? When you say that the motor won't engage, do you mean that is won't start or that it starts and revs up freely but will not move the cart?
Thanks Dave |

Re: motor won't engage
OK that's easy. Let's round up the usual suspects. First off you will need a voltmeter or a test lamp. For safety either put the back end on stands or remove the drive belt so that if it starts it does not run away with you. The most common problem is that the ground point is corroded so trace the line from the negative battery terminal to the frame and remove the cables. Sand the ground to bare metal and clean the cable lugs. Make sure that the earth strap from the ground point to the engine is in place. This is important. Now try to start the cart. If it still doesn't turn locate the solenoid which is on the center of the firewall, it will have two small terminals and two large terminals. Put your test lamp or meter across the two small terminals, turn on the key and depress the accelerator. You should see 12 volts across the meter. If you do go to A. if not go to B.
A. Connect your meter negative to the battery negative and the positive to any large terminal on the solenoid if you see 12 volts then connect to the other terminal. Now depress the accelerator. Do you see 12 volts. If not your solenoid is defective. B. Near the coil is the microswitch at the end of the accelerator pedal. with the ignition on one terminal should be 12 volts and the other 12 volts with the accelerator depressed. If you depress the accelerator and it does not switch 12 volts then the microswitch is defective. Try this and report back. Dave |
