89 EZ GO marathon - starter/gen removal
any tips on getting the starter/gen out - removed all the wires - down to trying to get the large bolt out that it pivots on - do i have to remove the motor?

its not too hard. you do not have to move the motor. the biggest thing is to remove the muffler. there is only one nut on the bolt, i mean the other end is captured by the generator casing. you also have to remove the adjusting arm. get the muffler off and you will see it all.

Mine has 2 short 1/2" bolts where the generator pivots. It's easy to get the 2 bolts out. Remove the rear trunk cover if you have to. This exposes the back side of the generator. Madoc is right, almost impossible to get at with muffler in place.

Re: 89 EZ GO marathon - starter/gen removal
i did remove the muffler, adjusting arm, and back body panel - just having a hard time getting the bolt out - mine is threaded on one end and is captured on the gen. casing on the other end - does it just need to be hammered out? it is really stuck in there - or as afz stated where his has 2 bolts - is that whats in there?

nothing else is holding it that i can think of. spray it with pb blaster or the like, wiggle the gen up and down and wait awhile. it will give.
