clutches
cart ran fine sat. morning at deer camp. when we i took the cart out for the evening hunt it wouldnt pick up any speed. i cant tell if it is the motor or the clutches. the motor takes off well it just falls on its face after initial takeoff and it also reves up just no speed what do i need to look for on the clutches. it is big blocked with briggs 18 and has the drive clutch from ccp. does the driven clutch require to be greased and where to do that.

Re: clutches
Is the belt slipping? Doesn't always make a sound when it does.

i lifted the seat. the belt is not coming up quickly or all the way when i give gas in neutral. motor revs belt just doesnt move freely if that makes any sense

Re: clutches
im gonna mess with it tonight. but i know the clutches are not stuck open. its like they dont want to open and shift. the motor revs up and it has torque on bottom end just never really speeds up. loading it on the trailer when i get it to the front to tie down it will squeal the tires like normal.

Re: clutches
That sounds like the driven clutch. The driven clutch gives you your low gear when the belt rides all the way up to the top of the sheaves. When it shifts the belt drops lower into the sheaves and gives you your high gear.
I found this video helpful, full explanation of how cvt works. I suspect that the driven clutch is stuck in the "closed" position, meaning the belt stays in the upper portion of the sheaves. This would cause the condition you described. You have to watch it in action to verify. You could, although dangerous, jack up the rear end off the ground, block the front wheels, and watch the engine/transaxle while you rev the engine via the gas pedal. DO NOT RUN CARB WITH YOUR HAND! I did this and a nasty accident happened. Anyway, watch the belt and verify what it does. |
