I have one too! So is it for a light or a guage? I assume there is a difference.

It is for a light. The wire goes to a switch which is either off or on so it will not drive a gauge.

I assume the switch connect the ground side of the circuit.

How do you test to make sure the light/sensor is working when it is supposed to?

You are correct it switches a ground. If you connect a multimeter set to ohms from the white wire to the engine block or battery negative it should show zero ohms. Now start the engine and it should show infinity ohms. It would then be an easy task to run a switched 12 volt line to a lamp mounted on the dash with the other side wired to the white wire.

Yes, that is why you wire it through a switched source so that it is off with the ignition off.

okay, thanks!

So that's how I know the sensor is working. Light on when engine not running but key on, light off when engine running (obvisiouly key on).
