Club car ds brake question

I have been trying to change the brakes on my Club Car DS and have discovered that the brakes I purchased online are slightly different from the ones that I am replacing. The ones that were on the cart seem to be universal and do not have a leading and trailing orientation, whereas the new ones do. No biggie right? That only took 2 days to figure out after finding a thread on here that someone else posted that seemed to be as ignorant as I on how to accomplish this seemingly easily task, as I see everyone else says should only take 10 minutes per side. What a laugh! That being said, I also see mention of a small spring and large spring. All of my springs are the same exact size. I even went by the local Club Car dealership to purchase new brake retainer kits(since I seem to be taking these on & off so many times) and asked about the leading and trailing orientations of brake shoes and was told that all the brakes they sell are the same size and there was no leading and trailing brakes. I'm baffled to say the least. I've noticed the bottom spring is not serving a purpose at all since it has no tension what so ever. Did I purchase the wrong brakes or do I need to get new springs? The brakes that were on the cart to begin with definitely have no markings for leading and trailing and are the exact same size with the exact same distance on the holes the springs attach in and the springs are all the exact same size. Please help. I am very confused.

Send the ones back to the Internet and go get the right ones from the club car dealer you already bought from. Your Internet savings no longer exist since you spent gas money to go buy a kit you didn't need. Not to mention all the wasted time and aggravation.

Thanks Steve, that explains a lot. I see I purchased the wrong brake shoes. I have the manually adjusted brake assy and not the self adjust brake assy. That is the reason my springs do not fit. There is apparently no leading or trailing brake to the manually adjust assy. Yes, Melonbuster, you are correct. I should have just purchased from the dealership. My dad always says, the lessons that stick with you the most are the ones that are hard learned. I hope anyone in the future finds this thread and the information Steve gave me so that they don't go thru what i did. Thanks again Steve.
