Ok got it welded together, I gound down the shaft ends so I could run a root pass with some filler wire and then laid down two cover passes. I laid them in a piece of angle iron using it as a jig to keep the alignment correct. The column itself was just a simple fuse joint, no stress on that part.

I do not have my steering wheel back from the powder coater yet so final assembly will be Monday or Tuesday. I have to say this has been pretty easy and I think the cosmetic difference will be well worth the time.

I finished up today, got everything back together and i must say I am very happy with the results. Seven inches shorter seems to be perfect. Now I get to start on the exhaust manifold bolts a rung off in th head. Not happy about that at all.

I like the shifter, I just had it powder coated black because I could not keep the water spots off of it. It looks cool if anything.

I have never thought of shortening the steering column... now I'm curious as to "Why"

After adding a steering wheel and hub adaptor the wheel was chect high. I figured the steering wheel in my truck is in a good position so I made my cart the same way. Besides the fact that we are always looking for things to make our carts stand out. Custom, can't get it on a stock cart or buy it in a store.

I think I'm gonna do it to the newest one I'm building. Seems like a cool thing to do. Just never thought of doing it before.
