4 12 volt batteries?. Have to do it!
Hello all, I know 6 8 volts is better, butt..... I am in a small island in the Bahamas. 8 volts are over $200 each. Marine deep cycles are half and available. My requirements are no hills and daily round trip usage of 6 miles. My question is what type of range can I expect on a standard 48 volt club car? Am I correct in going with the largest deep cycle marine battery, say 1000 amps? Should I go with sealed or regular maintenance? Thanks

You need golf cart bats either way, marine bats are not going to do well at all.

Not the answer I was looking for, looking for first hand experience using 12 volts.

Come on man, you have to be open.
Marine batteries will NOT work, they must be golf cart batteries. They should be regular maintenance with the fill holes. If you get the wrong battery type, you will waste money... As for run times, I am not really sure, hopefully someone who knows will chime in. |

You need to look at the amp hour rating of the batteries and the rated discharge current. Marine 12V batteries are not designed for golf cart types of discharge rates.

You are right, I have no experience with marine bats in my golf cart because I know they wont work properly and would never put them in. The two marine bats on my boat will run all day with stereo but dont forget they are getting charged whenever the boat is running, otherwise they would poop out in a couple hours. |

Bimini it sounds like your mind is made up so it's not going to much matter what the experienced people on here tell you. It will only result in a case of "I told you so". If you check the threads on this forum, you will find that you need a deep cycle golf cart battery regardless if you go 8V or 12V. A marine battery is for cranking, not running a golf cart. You will not be happy with the run time or the longevity compared to a deep cycle golf cart battery. In this business, you get what you pay for. As far as 12V vs. 8V, you will get longer run times and longer life with the 8V. However, if you properly break in and maintain your 12v golf cart batteries you should get 4 years out of them. Either way, it's your choice. Good luck with your decision.

Other more experienced than me can give you info on range. The main thing is to break them in properly and maintain them. Check this sticky on how to do this.
