2000 36v resistor upgrade
First off, let me say thanks to you guys (and gals) for all your great info on the site! I have learned a ton from all of you. So with that dangerous knowledge I am working on my cart....
This is my very first cart. It is a 2000 Club Car 36v Resistor cart. I purchased it 2 weeks ago from the original owner. He had upgraded the motor, put a lift kit on, back row bench seats and 21" tires. Of course he started burning up v-glides and solenoids, in addition to melting the #6 wire running to the motor. The V-Glide was replaced about 18 running hours before he parked it. I have since cleaned the V-Glide, he had also replaced the solenoid with a 200 amp. I have a set of 1/0 wires going in from a friend that runs a cell tower battery backup company for the batteries, and connections to the motor and solenoid. The owner has no info on the motor, but GPS puts me at 22-23mph on flat land. I have a PB-8 pot box (0-5k) ready to go in place of the V-Glide, and am now looking at controllers. How can I know what amp rating to run since I have no info on the motor? I was planning on doing a Alltrx AXE4855 or a GE 500 AMP, but didn't know if a 400 amp would be sufficient. This will primarily be a summer cart to run thru the neighborhood, to the in-laws pool and at campgrounds. Some off roading. Thanks again! |
