I wonder what's involved to upgrade to newer style?

I don't see why you couldn't upgrade to a new style rack. I wonder if the steering shaft would be the same?

Yeah I need to figure that out. I wonder if it's just plug and play for the most part.

I would like this info too if any one knows where to find the kit. From my research you need to replace the whole steering rod etc because the newer style has bends to contect to the rack and pinion.

i have an 1981 CC DS also. I got the play out of the steering but i would like to replace the tie rod looking joint for the steer joint. it looks just like the tie rod on the drivers side i'm going to see if it fits tomorrow while i still have it all apart. hope so then i can just order a drivers side tie rod.
