2010 Precedent Battery light and loss of charge

Disconnect either the main positive or the main negative cable for 10 minutes.

The pack negative cable comes through the OBC, it is not connected to it.

Did You do the simple test of disconnecting the charger DC plug, waiting 30 seconds and connecting it again to make sure it is producing the correct charging voltage/current?

I did the first simple test and it did not go all the way to 15, only to about 12. Then I did a OBC reset and drove it for a couple of miles. The cart seemed to have more power and the battery light did not come on like it had been. Then I did the simple test and it went all the way to 15. Hopefully that took care of the issue.

That is a good sign.

No matter how fully charged the batteries are, the charger will always go to the maximum current when first plugged, if it does not, there is a problem.

The first few times you charge the pack after the OBC reset will take longer than normal as the OBC is trying to get a baseline for the batteries condition.

If the charger doesn't do that going forward would you start with the rectifier first?

When rectifiers are bad they don't work again, so the fact that resetting the OBC allowed the current to increase would indicate the OBC was the one limiting the charging current.

You really need to do this test after You finished a full charge and the batteries rested for 12 hours, and the pack should be around 51v by then.

So back again after the holidays, after a full charge all the batteries test out at 8.3. After 18 holes of golf on a hilly course they all test out at 7.6. Would you say that it is a battery problem? It just doesn't go all the way to 19mph on a flat area, I can get 14 mph.

That 8.3v per battery (49.8v for the pack) is pretty low for the battery voltage after a full charge and a rest period (< 80%).

How old exactly are those batteries?

Open the caps and check the water level to make sure they are above the plates, don't trust the auto watering system.

Always use the 20vDC scale (2 decimal places) on your meter when measuring individual battery voltages.

If the water level is fine, do another OBC reset and measure each battery voltage again after the first charge and at least 8 hours rest period.

The batteries are 11 months old. I did manually water the batteries. I will do the OBC reset again and let you know. Thanks
