Trojan battery run time?
Yesterday, i installed a new computer and new 12 volt trojan batteries in a 05 precedent.
All is workng fine. After i installed the batteries, i plugged the cart in with a brand new DPI charger fr the first charge. This morning i hooked up my lester discharge unit, to see how much run time the new batteries would get. I was shocked to see 79 minutes. I was thinking i would see alot ore minutes than that. So what is a typical run time of new 12 volt T1275 trojan batteries? |

Re: Trojan battery run time?
That sounds about right. First a set of 4 T-1275 batteries contains 4 KwH of useable energy. Second a stock 3.3 motor uses 2.5Kw/hr. Do the math and you get 96 min of run time. Now before everybody gets excited this is all theoretical. This is also for perfect conditions and under STP. It might increase once you get the batteries broken in.

Re: Trojan battery run time?
Need to do a few test that JohnnieB talked about , and that will tell us more. Are these New batteries? or Reconditioned batteries?

Re: Trojan battery run time?
Did you calculate the Amp Hours you got in the 79 minutes? Was it near the rating of the batteries??? 79 minutes in itself tells you nothing unless you know the discharge rate and starting and ending State of Charge (SOC) of the battery pack.

Re: Trojan battery run time?
These are brand new trojan batteries ( A6). Installed, charged the first ime, then discharged using lester 48 volt discharge unit.
After the first charge, let them sit over nite, then measured 50.9 volts, then hooked up the discharge unit.=79 minutes. I was expecting to see a couple hours? Maybe i have seen the 2 hours on 8 volt i have never tried this on new 12 volt batteries. I just removed a set of 2 year old trojan 12 volt batteries, that would only charge up to 75 %, and after charging up to 75 %, those old batteries had a run time of 77 minutes!!! So i was shocked to see 79 on first time trojan T1275's |

Re: Trojan battery run time?
That may be about right for brand new Trojan 1275 batteries.
Their specs call for 102 minutes @ 56amps discharge. The Lester discharge machine will apply a 56.25 amp load to the 48v pack until the volts per cell is 1.75 or the pack is down to 42v. Trojan states that it takes between 50 to 100 discharge/charge cycles for the battery to achieve maximum capacity. |

Re: Trojan battery run time?
OF course we all know new batteries are not up to 100% capacity until they have cycled many many times. Putting new batteries on a discharge machine would not be my recommendation.

Re: Trojan battery run time?
Sergio is hitting the nail on the head.
New batteries only have about 75% of their rated storage capacity until they are broken in, which would be somewhere in the 76 to 77 minutes of run-time at a 56A discharge rate. Also, the 102 Minutes at 56A is at a temperature of 80°F. Storage capacity is reduced by 6.25% for each 10°F below 80°F. That means that 79 minutes of run-time after a single charge on a new set of 12V-150AH batteries is well within the ballpark, maybe a bit on the better than expected side. Might also indicate how well the DPI charger works. |
