Default Needing help with batteries on old 36volt cart

Bought an EZGO electric cart. This thing is old and looks to be a dinosaur. has a 36volt battery setup. Ran around in the thing for a few days no problems. then after I had charged it within a minute of driving it loses all power. So I am thinking batteries.

I put the batteries on the charger for 12 hours. then I unhooked all the batteries so they were separated. left them like that for another 12 hours. checked batteries voltage. had 1 battery read 5.8 volts. rest were 6.1 or better after sitting for 12 hours. hooked them all up and ran cart again. made it for a minute and started dying. pulled seat up and felt all the batteries. the first one on the negative side of of series was hot as heck. and it was the one that read 5.8. assumed it was a dead battery. replaced it with a napa 8146. hooked everything up and went good for about 2 minutes and started dying. pulled seat and of course another battery on down the series line is getting hot and now reads below 6 volts.

question is am i gonna be doing this til they are all replaced or am i gonna get lucky?
can just one bad battery cause it to die like that or do i have a bigger problem?
any help is appreciated thanks. nathan

If they are all the same batteries and all have the same date on them then I would assume they all will be in the same condition so I would replace them all.

Buying batteries one-by-one is the biggest waste of money ever. The newest battery will quickly be beaten down to the levels of the others. It will be consistantly overcharged until it is in bad health too. If you want results, get the rest new too. I suggest getting more of the same ones you already got one of, so it will be a exact match to the other 5. I dont offer warranties with new batteries sold one-by-one, only as a set.

6.1 after being charged is barely 60 % state of charge remaining...

Sorry all those batteries are TOAST and need to be replaced...

thats what i was wanting to know. What should the voltage be at on a battery then? the new one is only at 6.2.

this is a 6 volt system.

the batteries aren't that old.(dated 2014) just had the one that was not even getting above 6 volts and then gets super hot on outside after its ran for a minute

Batteries getting hot in short time is a sign of poor care or failure. They are "older than their years". You are bearing a dead horse with those old batteries.

"bearing a dead horse"? I'd rather beat a dead horse.

You're right though. Time for a new set.
