Default How bad is this, possible thrown armature conductor

Heard a pop, then smelled smoke from the motor. Here is a pic of the damage. Emp, who made the motor said I possibly thrown a armature conductor. They haven't got back with me yet about the cost.

It looks like it got pretty hot!

Lots of flaking enamel on the armature. It will need rebuilding or replacing.

What controller and voltage are you running? What were you doing when it smoked?

48v
Emp two stage motor
Alltrax 650 amp controller
2awg cables
48v sol.
14" wheels and lo profile tires

I wasn't going fast I took off from a stop, it happened about 100ft out.

It's a 36v motor running 48v. It runs 25-30mph on flat ground, but I've been up to 36mph in ithe cart plenty of times. I may have been taking the rpms too high. It's been acting up, jerky acceleration at starting off. Then that happened.

The real damage may be down inside the motor.

It probably is. The burnt smell was coming more from the rear of the motor when it happened.

I want to replace it with something capable of high speed. I don't know if I should let emp try to rebuild it or go with plum quick. They are 30 minutes from my house.

15-20mph depending on how steep the hill. It slows down on hills, but never struggles.

Has the alltrax been properly mapped to the motor? Bad mapping of shunt motors leads to damage due to poor commutation between the armature and brushes.

I'm not sure, I live near plum quick motors. They hooked it all up.

I only bring it up since EMP will usually have specific settings for the motors they build due to the extend of the customization in some cases.

Most of plumquick's motors are designed to work with the stock controller as well as the upgraded ones so they field mapping is identical to what you would use in a stock motor. If they didn't have EMP's recommended settings (if they were not designed to match the stock control) then there may be a mapping issue.
