Default PDS cart with speed chip --what about the magnet?

Got a 2002 ezgo stock PDS cart ( push button f/r).

Cart runs ok, and has a freedom speed chip , and it has a ge motor.

Although i get about 17 mph with the speed chip, i was told if i change the magnet on the motor, to a 4 pole magnet, i would get more speed.

I am aware this will work on club cars, but don't recall ever hearing you can do that on a pds cart with a speed chip??

So can i increase the speed on the 36 volt pds cart that has the freedom chip installed, by also changing the magnet to a 4 pole one?

Yes, but if you are only getting 17 MPH with the speed chip (assuming 18" tire height and 12.44:1 gears), the motor in that cart isn't hitting the 4400 RPM limit imposed by the Curtis 1206MX controller, so there will be no speed gain.

When unfettered, a stock PDS motor in a cart with stock height tires and stock gears will do about 24 MPH (5600 RPM) when powered by a 36V battery pack.

If you can find a magnet disk with half the number of poles, the controller will think the motor is only spinning at 2800 RPM when you hit the max RPM for 36V applied.

However, it sounds like something is holding that cart back, since it isn't reaching the normal 18-19 MPH with a speed chip.
