42v Using OEM 36 v controller?
Houston, I might have a problem. I just received a Lithium Conversion Pack for my '07 PDS TXT 36v. It is pretty much plug and play but looking at the charger I have a concern. The batterys are listed at 42v max and 38v "average". My pack arrived at 39.4v. I was told that I would receive a charger with the appropriate voltage. What I received was a 42v charger. That might be appropriate for the pack but not for my cart. The pack was supposedly for a 36v cart like mine. My concern is if the charger terminates voltage a 42v these do not settle back to 38.v like the FLA's. I am concerned I might burn up the OEM controller and whatever else. If it matters I have stock tires and drive on flat asphalt and seldom at full throttle.

Re: 42v Using OEM 36 v controller?
Many Western carts ( EZGO )
run 42 volts ( 7 x 6 volt batts) on the 36 volt system with no problems They use a 42 volt charger & pack volts around 45volts & get increased speed & torque You should be fine But; for "peace of mind" : check with the cart dealer in your area & with the Lithium batt folks Betting that they've had this issue may times |

Re: 42v Using OEM 36 v controller?
Most stock 36V controllers can usually withstand up to about 50V charging voltage, and can usually operate at close to that before overvolt shutdown starts to occur. Lithium packs are not like FLA batteries in that they do not get exposed to excessive voltage during charge. Otherwise they get 'very angry' and let off more than steam

The stock Curtis control may not handle the over-voltage well

Re: 42v Using OEM 36 v controller?
Your pack will only be 42v max. The stock controller would have to handle at least 45v as that's the high end of the FLA battery charging voltage. You will be fine.

I guess we will see. Hope I don't get the magic smoke. I would be more comfortable if the charger would terminate the charge at a wee bit less.

I like magic :) Your charger will probably only charge to 41.5v, check with Nick to see if you can adjust either charger or BMS. I would personally leave it. Your only over by 6v, that has to be well inside the electrical tolerance of that controller.

Re: 42v Using OEM 36 v controller?
My pack was delivered at 39.4v. I don't know if he used that charger when testing the pack. I will monitor my DVM during the first charge cycle and see what happens. The resting voltage on my FLA pack was 38.2v.
