Default EZGO shuttle questions

I just picked up a factory built 2003 Ezgo shuttle. I was a little surprised to find that it has a center console with a shifter and hand E brake like a car. Also the five lugs and hydraulic brakes. It has a 36v motor but is running ( 6volts. The batteries are on the way out and the battery box is needing rebuilt so before I build a new one I was wondering about either going (6) 8 volts or (4) 12 volts. I know it should run the car seeing as its the same voltage but I have never personally changed one over so I wanted to make sure it would work, and I wouldn't lose any of the ride time. Also does anyone know if they make a 5 lug to 4 lug adaptor. The cart is is already lifted and has aftermarket 5 lugs but I'm not a big fan of them and the 4 lugs are cheaper.

Generally, more batteries / less volts each gets a lot better run time than less batteries / more volts. It's likely that 12 volters will cost you run time. There are some battery experts here who can explain why and give more specific detail

I have one of those shuttles and I upgraded from 36v to 48v using a Scotty kit. The results were simply tremendous. That conversion costs $$$ though. Still, you may want to consider it.

The wheels are a tough call. I got lucky and have the 4 lugs ones on mine. There is another guy in my camp who also has a shuttle but he has the 5 hole lugs. He claims to have looked and looked for some kind of adapter with no luck and that the 4 hole drums can't be retrofitted on his cart. I don't know that for sure though.

I cannot help with the 4-Lug/5-Lug question, but the attached chart illustrates the battery type vs runtime issue.

The standard battery pack for your cart is 8 x T-105 (6V - 225AH) and using a 6 x 8V the best you can do is about 10% less runtime mathematically.
A 4 x 12V configuration is about 34% less runtime at best.

Due to the Peukert Effect, the actual runtime loss will be greater than the theoretical losses stated.

A couple weeks ago I got into a 2001 shuttle project. Same situation with 5 lug. I've talked to some shops and got prices from $300-350 for a set of 4. Adapter would add approx. 2 inches to each wheel. Wish I could find em cheaper. Tough to justify the $$$, but I'm almost there.

Sounds very similar to my 2001 model. Simple cart with potentiometer mounted in front and controller/motor in the rear. Crazy old rotary F&R between the seats with 8 ft cables running to the rear. I have a 500 AXE control and 10hp D&D in mine - been waiting for it to break down so I can justify a makeover but it just keeps on ticking. My side panels come off and seats go in.

Is your solenoid clicking when you try to go?

I see manuals for sale at shopezgo.com
