Re: Trickle Charger for 48V
So, I have the original charger that is suppose to charge the battery every 16 days (CC DS).
Would I be better off with a trickle charger? Seems like I'm adding water at least twice over the winter months. |

Re: Trickle Charger for 48V
Are you going that amount of time periodically without driving it? If so, I probably would. If it is not often and the cart is generally being used regularly, then I would probably stick with my PD charger. If you want one they are $50 - $85 based on what type you get.

Re: Trickle Charger for 48V
So I ordered a save-a-battery pulse charger/maintainer, received it yesterday, hooked it up and now 24 hrs later, still shows it's charging, no big deal, but I have a temp gun, and took a reading, 140 degrees??? Are they suppose to get that hot?

Re: Trickle Charger for 48V
Did you charge that pack with the CC charger first?
What you bought is a maintainer, it will really just keep pack at or near current level when you attach it. I suppose it would charge the pack higher if left on a discharged pack. But to get the pack to where it needs to be, the CC charger will throw amps at it early in the charge, then toward the end of charge the CC charger will cut the amps and throw some heavy volts at it. It's common to see the CC charger humming along late in the charge at 4-5 amps but cranking out 60 volts... |

Re: Trickle Charger for 48V
Yes, I had the CC charger on it before I hooked this up. It's the temp of the unit that bothers me.
And I do have older batteries, was hoping to get a little more use out of them. |

Re: Trickle Charger for 48V
It will continue to run. Seldom will it be off. Its trying to maintain something like 50/51 volts on the pack.

Re: Trickle Charger for 48V
Put your meter on it and see what you are getting now. It could be charging at a higher amperage but it is a trickle type charge so it is low and slow

Re: Trickle Charger for 48V
Ok, but what has me worried is the temp of the unit. 140 degrees is hot, I don't need a fire of any kind.

Re: Trickle Charger for 48V
the pack was showing 53.9, but...that was right after I unplugged the unit.
