Default 93 club car DS slow acceleration and top speed

I have a 1993 Club Car DS that just doesn't go all that fast. Im pretty sure the controller is the original one but I am not 100% sure. I do know that motor is original. could it be the controller the motor or maybe just need up upgrade the wiring to newer thicker gauge?

I attached a picture of the controller that is in it now.

if you guys can give me some guidance on this it would be amazing since i crave the need for speed...at least 13mph anyway haha.

Have you clocked it with your phone GPS?

CC has a few built in speed settings, they range from like 12 MPH to 19 MPH.

If you are down to like 8 MPH, Limp Mode, you may have a bad Speed sensor.

19 MPH is what they call private speed or speed code 4. For that you have to pay around $100.00 to your local CC service shop.

I think you can get to that same speed with a Speed magnet which fits in your motor behind the speed sensor. Several posts to read on this upgrade. Or check out the link below to see one of our site sponsors who can sell you a good quality Speed sensor and magnet.

Be sure and let us know how fast it goes now and we can provide additional help.

Hello BigMac welcome to BGW. I can't make out the controller in the photo, but I'm pretty sure that 1993 is what is called a "series" motor and won't have a speed sensor in it. Look in the "stickies" and determine what type motor/drive system you have. Does it have small wires with a plug protruding from end etc.

Sounds like the throttle needs adjusting or you lost a resistor in the multi-step V-glide.

Isolate the black and white wires coming out of the V-glide and sample the ohms range of the pedal. Should be approx. 0-5k ohms.

PS_ Also check the reverse m/s on the F+R switch for function (m/s closest to the batteries).

^Yes he needs to make sure the wiper is going all the way up. But, we have not even gotten to checking the batteries yet.

Yes, we haven't gotten voltage numbers. Yet, the advice he got was to look for a speed sensor that a 93 cart won't have. My bad for suggesting something that actually applies to his cart.

By the way, that controller is a stock Curtis 1204-015, 24-36 volt, 275 amp..

Thank you all for the info. We have checked the batteries and they are in perfect working order. In the process of checking all the readings of the pedal and the F+R switch. Everything kind of had to get put on hold thanks to irma, more info to come again thank you for the help.

PS this site is amazing for anything you would ever need for carts.

What is your actual speed? Make sure your brakes are not dragging. Are your tires properly inflated?

That's pretty fast for a jeep isn't it?
