Default Slow Uphill

Club car DS with new Alltrax 300 amp controller and stock motor with new brushes goes 20mph on flat ground but when trying to go up hill slows down really bad to less than 10mph. I have new batteries also with new cables. Any idea why it drops so much going up hills.

That may be kind of typical on series carts with a stock motor. Do you have 2 or 4G cables? What are your battery pack voltages when going up the hill?

I’m wondering if your voltage is dropping too low. How new are the batteries? I ask because they may not be “broken in” yet.

They probably have only been driven 20 times for 20 min each time

You need more horsepower. Like a new motor. Speed motor not torque.

Wait a minute, a speed motor will get you more speed on level ground. It will make you go even slower up hill. When you go with speed motor your get less torque. If the cart is an IQ drive look at the 7144 motor. It is speed plus torque.

Also you need to make sure you are getting full throttle and not losing voltage.

Something else to consider... The stock controller was 225 amps. Aftermarket controls come in 300 400 500 amp increments. With 225 being restricted enough for public golf rental and 500a being a direct connection between the motor and the battery pack aka full power... I would not suggest the smallest aftermarket controller available to climb hills, period.

Also this motor should reach 22-23 mph on flat grounds...not 20. So I think maybe there is a better map for your motor that will give more performance from the current set up. Or you have a battery problem.
Call Alltrax and give them the motor make and model # as well as the map currently installed in the controller. They will either assure you this setup is optimized or offer a new field map... Call 541-476-3565 ext 3 and keep us posted.
