Default 2013 precedent turn signal arc issue

I installed a light kit with turn signals and horn two years ago with no issue. Last week the turn signal case started arcing on the steering wheel. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Looks like you have used cart frame as ground. Also the lights should be on a fuse that should have blown. Make sure you place all electric connections to pack negative,or positive. The voltage reducer should get ground from pack negative.

Here is a picture of my reducer.

Red goes to + of battery

Yellow goes to red wire on light harness

One black goes to white wire on the harness

the other black goes to a black wire goin back to where the controller is.

In line fuse never blew.

The only thing I have grounded to the frame is the horns in the front.

The weird thing is everything has worked fine for two years. Also when it arced there were no burnt wires.

There may be an internal short in the turn signal switch, but either way, there should be NOTHING grounded to the frame on an electric cart.
Check your frame for battery voltage, and check it for continuity to pack negative. If a battery cable somewhere on the cart has rubbed through and touched the frame the frame (and your steering column) may be hot electrically.

Thanks I will check the frame and column for voltage. I will also look at every wire for insulation wear.

Remove the horn ground and run it to negative of reducer

fairtax4me - I have 48v at the Steering wheel and the frame. I checked all the wires and cables nothing is grounded on the frame. I am totally stumped.

Mrgolf - Disconnected the horns to eliminate them from the equation.

Disconnected the reducer and the 48v at the steering wheel and frame went away.

Bad cheap reducer?

Likely internal short in reducer. Remove it from mounting spot and insulate from cart frame. Mount to cart body maybe. This may fix everything.

If the frame has 48v that means some wire on the positive side of the battery pack is touching the frame or other metal somewhere on the cart. It could be the reducer or wiring to anything that uses 48v, but things like key switch, throttle, solenoid wiring, that use smaller wires would likely have caused some damage to wires or would have blown a fuse if there was enough current to cause that kind of arcing.
I would think it’s a big wire somewhere. Battery cable, motor, or controller wiring.
