95 club car DS
I have a 95 club car DS with 8v batteries that I just replaced. I went to charge them and used my 2005 precedent powedrive 2 charger and it doesn’t stop charging? I don’t want to ruin the new batteries so I unplugged it. The original charger that came with this cart is a powerdrive lester 17930 when hooked up up started sparking internally that why I used the other charger until I can rebuild it. Is the the power drive 2 ok to use on this? When should it turn off? What voltage? Thanks in advance.

It might take a long time if the batteries are brand new, and you might get to 64-65v. What do you have it at now? The Powerdrive 2 should work fine.

Re: 95 club car DS
A couple of things here:
The Powerdrive chargers (including 2 & 3) are all compatible with OBC carts. Your new batteries could take 16 hours or more to charge the first time. (As Luke pointed out) If working properly, the OBC should time out around 16 hours and you would have to manually initiate another charge if not completed. The chargers voltage can run between 61-65+ volts at the end as it tops off the finishing charge. Note- If this is a "new" to you cart, the OBC could be bad and is not cutting off the charger so stay close to it if you have not seen it operate correctly prior to this charge. |

Heading to the cart now and I will advise on the voltage. This cart is new to me. It’s a Royal ride by Elmer. On a 95 club car DS chassis. Where would the obc be located ? Thank you again for all the help.

52.5 volts across the pack. I did find the OBC. I will keep an eye on it to see what happens.

Re: 95 club car DS
I charged the batteries overnight about 12 hours and they showed 55 volts across the pack. They sounded like they are boiling / bubbling so I didn’t plug it back up. Is this normal?

Re: 95 club car DS
That is normal for new batteries. I would let it continue a little bit more. You want to get a little bit over 60v before the charger shuts off. Very neat cart!
