Default DS runaway

I'm new to golf carts. We bought a used 87 DS 36v. Got it home and it seems that once you go full throttle, it stays full throttle unless you switch it into neutral or stand on the brakes. Its a little scary at first. I lubed up the linkage just in case it was binding - no change.
need help.
TIA!

If this is the single Solenoid with Resistor coils model, replace the Solenoid as it is stuck closed.

This cart has a series of solenoids. I had thought it was probably a stuck solenoid. But I'm not sure how to test for it or which one is the problem.

Unhook the batteries and jack the rear off the ground until you get this sorted out. You are going to ruin the motor using the brake that way.

In the 5 solenoid system it takes two stuck solenoids to create a run away condition.

Try this approach to troubleshoot it.

Disconnect the copper bar that connects all of the big posts on one side of each solenoid.

With that copper bar removed, the cart cannot run and all solenoids are isolated from each other.

With the Key Switch OFF, set your meter for continuity and test between the two big posts in each Solenoid.

If You get continuity, replace the Solenoid.

Then with the Key Switch ON, make sure the other Solenoids show continuity between the big posts as You press the pedal and they engage.

Also replace any Solenoid that does not show continuity when it clicks.
