Default Power Wise Charger Testing/Repair

I plugged in the Power Wise charger that came with the cart that I rescued and put my meter across the plug terminals.

It only appears to be putting out 1.5VDC +/- but it says it's output is 36VDC.. I don't have any batteries in my cart right now, so there is no way to test that. Meter didn't move at all.

Looking at it closely it appears that there is an electric device, possibly a fuse, which looks like a small black box w/ terminals (smaller than a postage stamp) that was broken with the number "50" on it (or maybe "05 upside down). It was connected to one of the terminal posts on the back of the ammeter to the white wire that goes to the cart. See the attached pictures...

It connected here:

Could this be whay the charger wasn't throwing out enough volts?

What is this device? A fuse? Where can I get another one?

Lightbulb Re: Power Wise Charger Testing/Repair

That will keep it from charging. I don't think you will get a good reading from it though without it hooked up to a cart.

For a fix to the fuse. I have my own fix and it's cheaper and it works great.
take a regular inline fuse holder and put a 50amp fuse in it. Put a couple of spade conntectors on each end of the wires to reconnect it. You can pick them up locally and have spares on hand.

Good idea... So it is a fuse then?

I had a charger that blew the fuse for some reason, old I guess and I need it. I was at the beach without any back ups. I now have a multi charger I keep there all the time.

Not that the in-line fuse thing was a bad idea, but while I was at the local EZ go dealer at lunch today to get a key for the cart (I didn't have one), I told the parts guy about it and he had them in stock. I picked up one of those fuses for $7 and change.

The service guy tells me there really is no good way to test the charger without connecting it to a good set of batteries. He sez I can bring it on sown to the dealer and they will test it for me!

Question Re: Power Wise Charger Testing/Repair

Yeppers the charger will give you all kinds of odd numbers if the ac is plugged up with no dc on it.

I picked up and installed the new 50A fuse. I took the charger to the dealer and they tested it and she works again!!!!

I did get a light charge on the old batteries with a car charger (2 batteries at a time) and the cart went 50' under it's own power!!!!

I have the charger plugged in now and the meter is reading 15 amps. I know that's probably not a good thing but it isn't in the red...

Now that I know the cart and the charger both work, I'm off to buy some new batteries tomorrow.

Pictures...
