Radio Man

Please look at this on the Trojan site. Look down the page and watch the video called "Expand your battery charging "Know How"

http://www.trojanbattery.com/multimedia/#TrojanTips

Notice she says "charge after every use"

If a bank of batteries is cycled to only 5% it will actually do more harm than good as compared to cycling the batteries down to 10%. This primarily happens because at very shallow cycles Lead Dioxide can build up on the positive plates in clumps rather than in an even film

I have never heard of this. Do you not think the high volt charge rate would not break down the lead dioxide like it is supposed to do whether at 5% or 10% DOD?

The charge current would not be as great recharging a set of shallow discharged batteries.

With all the info I have read and the major battery manufacturers charts I have seen showing that shallower charge/discharge cycles extend battery life, I do not share your opinion but sir, it is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it.

I sure hope no one HERE is saying such nonsense.

No end to the battery myths out there .... Ending charge voltage is 63v on 48v pack and settled voltage is 51v = 1 hour after charge I'll bet it is still quite high

We always waited 12-24 hours after a charge to see what the pack could hold and then put the discharge machine on them for a true draw-down test in minutes.

Remember a few facts about wet cell lead acid batteries.... then u decide when you want to recharge
1. They have no memory
2. They sulfate when not fully charged
3. They begin sulfating when left to stand at 85% or less capacity
4. Sulfating cannot be reversed
5. All wet cell batteries die of sulfated plates
Gotta go - I got a few carts to plug in

The explanations along the sides are good reminders too.

I think I saw a note on the Trojan Battery site
about letting batteries set for one hour after use
to get a more accurate resting voltage.
As opposed to the 12-24 hour rest after charging.
After use is after discharging. 12 to 24 hours is after charging.

Now it gets interesting, you are also supposed to preferably allow batteries to rest a period (1 hr) after discharge, before charging them. The "real world" is not a perfect environment for batteries. Let the inaccuracy allegations begin. I don't know which book it came from, but I have stacks of factory books, and I read it in there somewhere. (let's not get into a book measuring competition). I actually enjoy technical books, my bookshelf at home has few novels. Maybe we can start a "home bookshelf thread", might be interesting.
