Default 94 Marathon upgrades

I am in the process of tearing down my 94 marathon I bought for $600. I use it at a campground. I need new batteries and cables for sure. Everything else works ok. There is a little noise coming from the motor on slow speeds but seems to work ok. I was gonna get a 2001 gas ezgo but the wife really wants the quietness of electric so I want to get my current one fixed up a bit. I have the body off right now and going to paint it, but while I have everything off I would like to do some upgrades. I am thinking about going to 48v. I don't want to spend a ton of money on it but would like it to have the power to add a lift to it, larger tires and be able to handle a couple hills around the campground. Nothing off-road. I have 2 kids that will be riding on a rear seat. If I wanted to keep the current 36v 2hp motor, what kinds of upgrades can that motor handle? Or should I look into the 48v conversion and getting a different motor? Thanks. I am new to the golf cart world.

Yep, I emailed Scotty and he gave me some good info and pointed me in the right direction. I think I will go ahead and upgrade controller, solenoid, and f/R switch and go 48v since I need new batts anyway. I will keep stock motor for now. I guess I also will be adding a lift kit sooner than later. Just saw this tonight. Since I bought it this summer I knew there was something not right. Always felt like a bent wheel when I drove on pavement.

There was quite a bit of rust and corrosion, but they still seem solid. I am going to sandblast them all and see what they look like.
