Default EZGO Series Cart High Speed Motor

just purchased a 2000 very clean ezgo series cart new controller and new solenoid when i bought it. Currently top speed is 15 with 10 in wheels and 205 tires which when measured is about 19 in tall. Id like to get up to around 22 and have good torque for hills when needed. I have had a guy at a shop tell me they can send the factory motor out to a shop where they put a part from inside of it on a lathe and turn it down. Has anyone had this done? If so how does it perform.

I have also heard of plum quick who says they can mod my motor for $225 and get me 20% more torque and more speed.

I also have been in contact with EMP and am wondering if there might be any info on them as well.

Any and all recommendations on which way to go would be great.

A series drive cart produces a lot of torque but, it is not the fastest drive system. I can get you to 20mph on 36v or 25 mph on 48v but it will require a complete new drive system; controller, HD F&R, solenoid, cable set, & motor. Cost is about 1500.00

Suspicious of the "we put it on the lathe & it goes faster" claim. The commutator is the only part that has any use for the lathe (and only if its worn), cleaning up the commutator on the lathe wont get a motor any more speed. Think of the commutator like a brake drum, it can be turned on a lathe to facilitate rebuilding, but only so much, and it does not increase performance, just makes it good for reuse again.

is there any motors that I could go with that would allow me to keep stock controller for the time being and i could upgrade to later?

No, not for what you want. A motor to perform as you ask will need more amperage than OEM controller can pass, more amperage than OEM cables can pass, more amperage than the OEM F&R can pass. So you are at a crossroads.
If you want to upgrade in pieces - you start with the cables, F&R, Control & solenoid, then motor last.

Hope this helps

I've installed the Madjax 600 and torque controller which would accomplish both your objectives for the EZ-GO 36V and 48V carts and saw speed of ~21 MPH with definite torque increase
