Battery Voltage Question??
I just purchased a 36v Yamaha GC. I finally got the charger working (thanks to you guys forums). Well, taking a voltmeter across my dead batteries. All are reading in the 6.2-6.4 range..that is except for one? I keep reading 12.4 across the terminals on it. I thought maybe the previous owner had subbed in a 12v in the system, but on closer examination it is identical to all the others. I checked the wiring and its wired in series correctly. Im somewhat baffled? Is it opened up and im reading the one to the left and the one to the right of it, hence the 12 volt reading??

Re: Battery Voltage Question??
if it is a yamaha tou may have the last battery installed in the opposite direction than the other batts-that may be messing with you?double check everything-i am interested as to why you are getting this reading...

Re: Battery Voltage Question??
I will go and check, but the one reading the 12volts is in the middle of the circuit?? Thanks for the reply..Im baffled too? I think i may unhook it from the circuit and see what i read.. Im thinking its shorted out internally and Im reading the ones on each side of it?

Re: Battery Voltage Question??
When measuring voltage you're measuring the voltage DIFFERENCE between 2 points (pos. or neg.). The difference at ends of a short would be zero and the difference at the ends of an open would be zero.
Sounds like you have something in parallel instead of series. . |

Re: Battery Voltage Question??
No, they are all in series. I misspoke; I understand reading across a short would be zero, but reading across an open would be the difference of potential, which would make sense that Im reading the batteries on each side. I unhooked the battery from the rest of the circuit and low and behold it was barely reading 5volts..If i were a betting man, I would say this is the bad one in the circuit.

Re: Battery Voltage Question??
Just for jollies, since you have the suspect battery out of the series, what reading do you get between the loose cable ends?

Re: Battery Voltage Question??
Loose cable ends? Do you mean the main positive and neg?

Don't mean to be a prick. But, this is posted in the EZGO electric section.
