Default Solenoid clicks, wont move forward or reverse

Hello all. First time posting so bear with me. I have a 95 ezgo medalist non-dcs/pds. I just bought the cart and the person I bought it off of said it wasn't running. It worked, then it didn't so he replaced the solenoid and still wouldn't move. I brought it home, tested a few things and noticed the plug on top of the speed controller wasn't seated all the way. Plugged it back in and the cart started moving. Let the kids drive it around, went to get the mail (2 mile round trip), and parked it for dinner. Came back out and wouldn't move. Solenoid clicks but won't move. The speed controller was slightly melted when I bought it but I did work for a short period. Would the speed controller be the only issue? I already have a new 4ga cable kit on order. Thanks in advance.

I have worked on a couple of these carts and when I have this problem it is usually the forward/reverse selector switch. If your solenoid is clicking then your low current circuit is working. Check all your cables and take apart and inspect switch if necessary

Ok, i will check it out. Is there a way of testing it before I go throwing parts at it?

Yes there is a test. Scottyb or johnny routinely post it. It may be a sticky or on the carts unlimited site.

Wait for one of them to post where your continuity needs to be.

One of them will be along soon

You have a series drive cart, so if the solenoid clicks when the pedal is pushed, the problem is in the high current circuit.

Jack rear wheels off the ground and put on jackstands so half ton cart doesn't take off unexpectedly and run over someone or something.

Measure the battery pack voltage with a digital voltmeter and remember the value. (Should be 38.2V if the 36V pack is fully charged)

Connect the voltmeter between the B- and M- terminals on the controller.

Press pedal just far enough to get the solenoid to click and you should read full battery pack voltage.

If not, there is an open in the high current cables, contact or connections.
Attached in a schematic with the high current circuit highlighted.

If you do get full pack voltage, lets us know and we will troubleshoot further.

When I measure between B minus and M minus with 38 V on the pack I get approximately 32 V until I press the pedal and then the voltage goes away.
Any help would be appreciated!

Start a new thread instead of hijacking a 4 year old one.
Include Year and type drive system. (Series, DCS, PDS)
