Default Ezgo

The pre charge resistor gets so hot, in a matter of seconds, that it can not be touched. Is this normal?

Thanks

Only happens when the solenoid is not closing and the controller is asking the motor to run.
If it is an Ezgo we need to get this thread moved to the Ezgo section and help you figure out which drive system you are asking us about - see below while I seek admin help.

I think it is a series setup. Just checked and it's too hot to touch, even after sitting off for 2 hours. The cart has difficulty climbing slight grades, but good on level ground. At times quits running, but will restart after several tries.

Again thanks for your help.

I have seen this before with controllers that are failing.

Remove the resistor. It is not needed to run.
Does the solenoid click when you try to go?

Yes. The solenoid seems fine. Any idea on the problem w/ grades and failure to start every once and awhile.

THANKS

Grades cause the motor to draw max amperage which causes the controller to heat up which may push the controller in thermal shut down until it cools sufficiently.

From a dead stop it's only a slight grade of 3% and cart barely moves a few inches. Take a running start and it makes it easily.

It takes more power from a stand still. I would test battery pack voltage when the cart starts out slowly on the hill first.

What year is your cart? I have a '98 and the solenoid started getting intermittent. It was random, not based on uphill or downhill.
