Default 2004 Club Car DS 36 charging issue

2004 Club Car DS. Bought brand new charger off EBay. Smart charger with float mode. 36 volt 18 amp. Charger comes on and trickle charges but will not "see" batteries and charge normally unless I press the gas pedal. Then it kicks on to normal charge mode and the amps output rises. Let off the gas...0 amps 41.4 volts. Anybody understand this???

Did Club Car even make 36V cars in 2004? I thought they stopped after the 1990s...Does yours have the 'battery' warning light on the dash?

What's the voltage reading at the charge receptacle on the car when it's not running? Me thinks you may have one of the charging leads (positive I bet) wired to the wrong side of a solenoid, so it's completing the circuit when it activates

I have no idea. I haven't touched the solonoid wires in so long. It's worked before in its current configuration. The only thing I've changed is I bought a new charger

Since it's a 36V it's got no OBC to confuse matters. Should just be wired directly to pack - and + straight to charger receptacle. I've seen Yamahas where the positive charge wire is rigged to one side of the solenoid, so since yours chargers while it's running all I can suggest is make sure the positive charger wire from the receptacle isn't on the running side of the solenoid.

Alright I'll compare a wiring diagram to how mine is actually wired tomorrow and make sure everything is right.

My solonoid is mounted sideways compared to the one in this diagram. So what will happen if I just switch the wires to see if that fixes the problem and that's not the issue. Could it blow any fuses or mess up the charger if I switch the wires and they're correct already?

Also which wires should I switch? The little ones on the smaller posts?

Alright I checked with my wiring diagram. Small positive is on the same side as the large positive wire. And negative wires are correct on the other side of the solonoid also. So what could be causing this? Why will it only charge if I press the gas? Somebody? Anybody?
