Default Resetting OBC on 2008 elec club car

Hi,

I have been trying to reset the OBC with no success.

I do not understand the step which is to disconnect the
MAIN negative cable. How do I determine which of the 4 batteries is the MAIN?

Also is it just possible that there is s bad fuse(s) and if so, where are they located.

The car is still driveable.

I am expecting a visit from the golf car desler tomorrow morning and would like to try and fix before they come.

There was no sound when i jammed the accellerator down.

Thanks

Duncan

That is a Sepex cart and there will be no sound.

The Main Pack Neg is on the Drivers side. The (-) post that has a single 6g cable on it that goes to the back of the cart. Unplug it for 20 minutes and reconnect it. Flip the Run/Tow switch to Tow before touching the cables.

You are absolutely correct the negative cable does go into the back of the car. I switched to Tow and then disconnected the cable. Will wait for 20 minutes. Reattach the cable then turn the switch to run and then connect the charger. Hopefully it will then click and start to charge.

Thanks do much for your advice. You are the first one to identify for me the main negative battery.

Hi,

I put the switch to Run and plugged the charger in. Charger still does not click and no movement on the needle.

I will now see what the cart guy does tomorrow morning.

Once again Thanks for your input.

I will advise if cart guy solves the problem and if possible, post the solution.

Duncan, if you see this tonight, check the 3/8 amp fuse inside the yellow bullet connector that comes off the back of the charge receptacle. If it is a Precedent, it will not have one, they are only on a DS. If it is good, or if you have a Precedent, then lets bypass the OBC for a test.

You can bypass the OBC by running a jumper from the back side of the charge receptacle (where the black 10g wire is that goes into the harness) and run it directly to the Main Pack Negative. Also take the grey sense wire coming off the same receptacle and land it to the same place. This will allow the charger to turn on "if" the OBC has failed by competing the charge circuit via the Main Neg jumper and the grey sense wire will allow the relay in the charger to close in. Note- This is only to test and not to make normal operation as it will not regulate the charge correctly.

If it does not cut on then, then we will know it is a charger problem and more than likely the relay inside. We can jumper that to test and it is easily replaceable if needed.

Hi,
Looks like I have a precedent. No yellow bullet connector.

Earlier I
borrowed a friends charger and it would not work either hence my conclusion that the charger wad not the problem.

It is now about 11pm so will have to see what the cart guy does in the morning. I do not have jumper wires.

Once again many thanks for trying to help me.

Good night.

P.s. I will let you know if the cart guy is able to fix the cart.

If it did not work with the other charger then your OBC has most likely failed. If you get a chance in the morning, just quickly take 2 pieces of wire and hook them up as I stated (it is really easy). 99% chance that is the problem. Then you can stop the service call and put that money towards a new OBC or a Smart Charger

Nole, do these carts and chargers operate as others do and need to see pack voltage before activating a charge? If so may that be the problem?

That is correct. The grey sense wire feeds back the the charger relay and has to see "x" voltage. (I believe it is like ~38vdc)
