solenoid
After reading some information on a site from plum quick I notice it being said that the upgraded solenoid must be mounted vertical. What is the reason for that?
On the cart that I'm working on a 93 club car DS that I just changed over to 48 volt I upgraded the solenoid and mounted it horizontal is that going to be a problem? 48 volt, HD F&R switch, alltrax 300 amp controller, HD 48 volt solenoid. |

Re: solenoid
That is typical of high current Solenoids like the Albright that have the posts on top, due to the mass of the moving bridge that connect the posts, it is desirable to have gravity help the bridge move away quickly from the contacts once power is removed from the coil.
Under normal operation a Solenoid on a controller cart will not open or close under load so how fast the bridge moves would not be of much impact. While one should always try to follow manufacturer recommendations, I think in this case since the solenoid is not operated anywhere near its rated capacity, horizontal mounting will not cause any issues. |
